Step One: Creating A Sim
Basics:
Create a Young Adult in CAS. You can customize their looks and favorites however you want. However, the Sim cannot be wearing any accessories or makeup. Their voice and favorites are also up to you.
Traits:
The five traits of your Sim are up to you, however you may not have the Kleptomaniac, Lucky, or Heavy Sleeper traits. Tip - Having the trait Loves The Outdoors will give your Sim a mood boost whenever they're wandering the streets.
Lifetime Wish:
Take a look at the five options for a LTW. You can't choose any career related wish. If there is more than one option that is not career-related, you can choose which one you want.
Step Two: Purchasing A Lot
Choosing Lot:
Move your Sim into whatever lot you would like. It doesn't matter. However, it must be a blank lot with no house or anything built on it.
Decorating Lot:
In Build Mode, you are allowed to use the following however you like: Trees, Shrubs, Flowers, Rocks, Terrain Paint, Ponds, and Terrain Tools. In Build Mode, you are allowed to purchase one "Community Bench". This is found in the Misc. category of Comfort. You are also allowed to purchase anything in the Plants category of Buy Mode.
Step Three: Being Homeless
Starting Up:
When you are done building, you must reduce your Sim's funds to $35. You can do this by typing in this cheat: familyfunds familyname 35
Earning Money:
No one wants to hire a filthy Sim! You cannot get a full-time or part-time job. You are limited to the ways you can earn money. You can collect and sell gems, bugs, space rocks, and other collectables. You can sell fish you catch or food you harvest. However, you cannot sell anything that you put on your lot in Step Two.
Spending Money:
You are only allowed to purchase things you can store in your inventory, like a guitar or fire pit for example. You cannot purchase chairs for the fire pit if you choose to buy one.
Eating:
You are only allowed to eat fish or harvestables (whatever is in your Sim's inventory). You can only eat your fish if it is cooked, so you can use a stove in someone's house (or on a community lot if you can find one) to cook it. You can also mooch food off another Sim. Your Sim can't eat in any restaurants, because you are not wanted there. Tip - Head over to Stoney Falls. There are bugs, rocks, and plants; perfect for the homeless Sim. :]
Gardening:
If you find a seed, you may plant it on your home lot. However, you may only plant seeds - you cannot plant a food (even though the game lets you).
Marrying/Moving In Sims:
You cannot marry or move in any Sims until you have completed the challenge. However, you can have a baby to make the challenge even harder.
Paying Bills:
Every few days a bill will appear in your mailbox. You are required to pay these bills, but they won't be very much money.
Hygiene:
You are welcome to take a bath or shower at someone's house - but this may get you kicked out. A better option is to have a shower at a community lot. Tip - the 28 Hour Wellness Gym has some bathroom facilities! If all else fails, your Sim can just wash their hands many many times.
Lifetime Rewards:
You can purchase any Lifetime Rewards you want, but you will only get points for the Lifetime Happiness points you haven't spent at the end. Tip - don't buy the Discount Diner, Office Hero, Vacationer, or Professional Slacker rewards, because you won't be allowed to use them (until the challenge is completed).
Step Four: Completing The Challenge
If you have used any money cheats after Step Two, you are disqualified. You have completed the challenge when you have $20,000. You must have all the money in your Sim's funds at one time; when you do this the challenge is over. If you would like to continue to play that Sim through their lifetime, all the restrictions are removed and you can then use anything in build or buy mode. If you want, you can also use this scoring:
- +1 point per every 1,000 Lifetime Happiness point you have at the end.
- +3 per friend, good friend, best friend, romantic interest, crush, or boyfriend/girlfriend you have at the end.
- +1 per skill point you have.
- +5 per skill you have maxed (level 10).
Well .. I completed the Asylum challenge but my Sim died before reaching her LTW. Maybe I could do better with this one. :)
ReplyDeleteI played with 3 real days. My sim finished challenge 2 days before she got elder. Nearly all her life :D Good luck EQ :D
ReplyDeleteI didn't play Asylum Challenge yet but I really want to try :) How was it?
Hello, Im new to challenges... I'm tried this one first, and really liked it. I'm doing a story about my challenge. :)
ReplyDeleteIm going to start doing other challenges I have seen here now. Which one do you recommend?
I liked this one and steal your neighbours house challange. Try maybe asylum challenge :) It is interesting :))
ReplyDeleteThe first challenge I have ever done is the stealing your neighbors house challenge. I was neighbor to Jamie Jolina (I feel sorry for her) For the homeless challenge - I have earned 9,000 Sim dollars and have been playing for 2 days. My sim's gardening skill is maxed and fishing skill 7 He is a adult now and has one death flower. I wonder how I am going to get to 20,000 before he finishes being an elder and dies... This is only my second challenge I like the steal your neighbour's house best at the moment. Because it's evil :P
ReplyDeleteYou will make it :D My challenge finished after only 3 days. I guess I was lucky with gems :) You choose 2 of my favourite short challenges :) Good luck
DeleteI am trying this challenge but I am really getting bored with Sims 3. I tried the Zombie Apocalypse challenge it was really hard to set up. Now im trying this. Do you have any challenges to recommend and I need some tips on keeping sims 3 interesting. PLEASE HELP!
DeleteCan you build fences around your garden to keep zombies out?
Deletecan you eat quick meals from community places and can you eat meals prepared by your friends?
DeleteI have list of many many challenges on my blog. Depend what you like to do. To be honest I like shorter challenges. My favourite is Steal you Neighbour House ;) It was funny to do :) Also Homeless challenge and Castaway challenge :)
DeleteI think when you are bored with sims take some break from playing or gather some simmer friends and do some challenges or competitions among each other.
You can try also challenges, start with shorter than you can do longer. Good luck
Do you remember if we can disable zombies in the game in game settings? Maybe that would be a good solution
DeleteI'm very late to the party, but there's no way to directly disable zombies. However, you can set the moon phase to non-rotating in the options menu (any phase other than the full moon) and zombies will never spawn.
DeleteCan you adopt pets??
ReplyDeleteThe original challenge rules are above but you can change it if you want :) It will make game more interesting. Just remember to earn money to buy bowl and bed for you pet :)
DeletePets dont necessarily need a bed or a bowl. I know for sure that cats can be fed fish.
ReplyDeleteJust started this challange. My sim stole vegetables from their neighbors garden haha
ReplyDeletethat one of the best challenges :) Have fun with it
DeleteI almost always play as a homeless person, I didn't know there was a challenge for it! it sure keeps the game interesting :)
ReplyDeleteAre tents aloud?
ReplyDeleteYou can carry is with you so is guess that's allowed.
DeleteCan you prepare quick meals at a neighbors house if you don't get kicked out?
ReplyDeletei am glad you all get these challenges i don't ever see them i seen turn the town once and then that vanished guess i wasn't good at that one..i just want to make the unplayable sims playable
ReplyDeleteLove this challenge, I'm working on my third run now going entirely off tips from playing guitar and nothing else. I'm at about 3 and a half weeks and $11K, and I think I'll modify the rules so that he has to get the Money Maker skill milestone ($25K made with guitar via tips and opportunities though I've been debating on not letting him do opportunities until the challenge is over). It's taking forever but is proving to be a weird mix of peaceful and "omg just put money in the dang guitar case, people!" Someone actually left a laptop sitting on a table at central park, that's mine now. XD
ReplyDeleteMy first run I also modified the rules because I wanted the challenge of my homeless Sim to actually have a job, and to try and keep up with that while sleeping on the streets and whatnot. The second time I played it straight by the rules and I think that Sim actually finished sooner by painting at free easels and writing books at the library. O.o
It is also my favourite challenge :D I played 3 times. Like to come back to it. Next time I will play with some animals or as a single parent of a child. It can be fun ;)
DeleteI have an island survival pack and it has a bed made out of trash and newspapers. can I use that for this challenge?
ReplyDeletecan i use the firehouse for sleeping and eat? if not can i use a sleeping bag?
ReplyDeleteThis was a brilliant idea, never done challenges on the sims 3 before and was getting a bit bored until I came across this! Only just started this and had lots of fun alread, definaly going to be doing some more challenges !
ReplyDeletePerfavore chi può dirmi come scaricare una pach nudità per the Sims 3?
ReplyDeleteCan I buy a sleeping bag? When I get enough money.
ReplyDeleteI did completed the challenge in 2 very stressful days XD but i did it!! I love this its awesome .. shout out to all simmers who are still on sims 3 \@/
ReplyDeleteI only have Sims 3. Don't think I will ever get Sims 4 jus from the reviews and hearing there is no community lots to walk around etc.
DeleteI completed the challenge as an adult. My Sim had elderly parents so when I bought the lot I just moved the parents to another lot and as such the money dwindle leaving my sim around $1000 which I used to buy her a sleeping bag, a picnic table a shrub and two large pine trees which I used for shelter on summer nights.
ReplyDeleteI then added other families I created as neighbours so she could befriend and have times to stay over. A tip I want to add is for food I used the grill-a-thon, when there is festivals I got my sim to enter the eating contests or if people where having picnics I took food from their basket.
I sold the fish and dumpster dived to make the money. As I gained skills in fishing my sim became a celebrity and people gave her items which I sold.
Just want to say it was actually great exploring the neighbourhood. She slept in the library, the gym, the community pools and when it rained she slept in the bathroom of the community pool or the gazebo at the small community pool. During winter she went back to her lot and slept in an igloo.
For a twist I made her insane and that added to the challenge as she would freak out when the zombies came out.
Over all a great challenge, will do it again. I did get over $20,000 but just scrapped by as some company sent her gifts and I sold them and she did it the day before she became an elder.
I will admit she did work twice, when the theatre asked her to be a bouncer. I might actually do a do over in another suburb, having the gym in Sunset valley was fantastic as she was able to eat, use the toilet and shower and as I said slept in the room which has the bath tub. So it was a bit easy. I might do it next at Roaring heights. On grounds of the great depression.
I started this challenge a couple of (human) days ago. My Sim is 5 days away from becoming an adult, has 3,200 § in his pocket and is about to give birth to an alien baby.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited about how that will turn out..
If I find a money tree seed can I plant it?
ReplyDeleteThanks and I have a tremendous supply: How Much Is Home Renovation local remodeling companies
